The whole place has been completely renoveted inside and the atmosphere, food and service have been improved greatly. The previous reviews do not apply to the present landlord and should not be considered.

I took my partner out for a romantic Valentine's Day meal to a village pub I'd never been to before, but which sounded interesting. On arrival, we were totally ignored until an obviously harrassed waitress showed us to a table, where we waited for over 25 minutes while other customers were being served. I was ready to walk out by then but my partner was determined to sit it out. In the meantime, two other couples had arrived and were treated to a similar long wait and were apparently invisible to any passing waiting staff. In the end they both left in disgust but our starters had arrived by then and we carried on, thinking it was just a temporary glitch in the kitchen. The main course arrived after yet another long wait, with no apology forthcoming for the delay and was only moderate in quality. Alright if you like cold mushrooms and processed peas, but for what we were paying it was very poor! If there was any saving grace, the desserts were OK, but were clearly bought in and microwaved. What was totally unacceptable was when 'mine hostess' came into the restaurant area and sat down to chat with some regulars, turning her back on the rest of her clientele. I was fuming by this time and got up to put on my coat ready to leave, but incredibly, yet again nobody seemed to care and we left without having the coffee and mints promised on the menu. Like a fool, I left payment on the now empty table, but it's one place I'll never visit again.
