This used to be a lovely pub with some great circular walks however during this visit it failed to hit the spot. The Sunday roast menu was extremely limited, after a long wait for the starter the main course finally turned arrived and when it did it was cold and the quality of the cuts of beef and lamb were appalling. What made matters worst was after a discrete comment to the waitress to warm things up the Landlady approached the table in a very confrontational way which is why we decided to walk out after paying for just our starters. We would have stayed if it wasn't for her shocking attitude and lack of apology. We went to another Brakspear pub at lewknor and loved it.

I´m not surprised to see all the other bad reviews for this place. My partner and I experienced a very disappointing lunch here - very small portions for the prices being charged, extremely limited menu , no complimentary bread basket or any other extra touches, surly staff. Such a shame as this could be a lovely place with the right management. Would not visit again.

Myself and my partner have been here a couple of times and tried it again for a third time where we felt completely ripped off. The roast, was as always, very nice, however at £13.95 you would expect it to be. I asked for extra gravy and was told I would be charged for it! This has never been a problem before. We then ordered desserts, waited for around 20 mins for them to come along whereby we had finished our coffees. My dessert, for £6.95, consisted of three slices of bananas, three slices of pineapple, three marshmellows, a shortbread biscuit and some chocolate to dip them in!! My partner had bread and butter pudding in a small sugar bowl. Our bill came to over £50, I really would not recommened anyone coming here.

We went to this pub about three years ago and enjoyed a a great walk followed by a warm cosy pub where we gradually got quite tipsy before being taken home with fond memories. My wife always expressed a wish to go back. Yesterday we did exactly that, more glorious walking followed by the pub which has obviously changed hands. I was a bit suspicious when I was charged nearly £10 for a pint of shandy, half a cider, a coke and two bags of crisps. Despite the credit crunch and my thirst I carried on. We looked at the menu and specials board and plumped for the welsh rarebit and a plate of sandwiches. That came to £16.95, so I was expecting some good portions. Unfortunately I was amazed to receive a large white plate with just one round of toast with a portion of cheese on top, that was it, no garnish, no extra crisps nothing, for £5.50. The plate of sandwiches turned out to be one sandwich cut in half filled with grated cheese and not the best quality tasteless ham! This was served on a piece of slate with a small bundle of lettuce leaves. That was it for £5.95. To add insult as soon as we had the food a person kept coming in obviously wanting to clear the plates. 3 times in 5 minutes. As soon as we finished which was within four bites of each dish, they were whipped away. I paid up and we left. Think we will find somewhere else next time. Grossly overpriced and very disappointing. Lovely pub but avoid for a bar snack.

I was very disappointed with the food and the service after hearing good things about this pub. We planned a walk so that it would finish at the pub and booked a table for sunday lunch but wish we had driven somewhere else! The service was slow and we were waiting for about 20 mins to even order our food, after deciding on roast beef (a pretty obvious choice for sunday lunch) we were told that they had run out. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I was not offered any bread with my soup where as the table next to ours had plenty of bread. Trying to catch someones attention to ask for some bread was impossible. The table next to ours had also sat down about 15 mins after us and they seemed to get two roast beef dinners! Not sure whether they knew the chef/waiter but when you pay a high-end set price for a meal and other people are obviously getting a better deal and more choice, you naturally feel disappointed. I would not eat at this pub again and would not recommend it to anyone. It's a total shame as the setting is great and the drink choice is good, just a shame about the rest of it.
