We booked this accommodation last minute and were stunned by the quality of both the inn and its accommodation which in our opinion provide excellant value for money! The White Horse is set in amongst the beautiful surrounding village of Duns Tew and it was a pleasure to wake up to in the morning. Unlike the previous reviewer we experienced none of the problems with our room, which was clean, adequately furnished, with ensuite and tea and coffee facilities. The inn is awash with period features and provided charming surroundings, the live band added to this, while the staff were both friendly and helpful. Like the previous reviewer we also ate our evening meal at the inn, they offer a great selection of foods, but we ordered steak and desert both were cooked and prepared to perfection. We would certainly recommend a night or several at the white horse!

The pub looks very nice and the staff were friendly when we arrived. First problem was that the shower in our room did not work. My boyfriend informed the manager and we were immediately offered another (larger) room. As it was not very warm we tried to operate the heater but after trying every combination we could not get any heat from it. Next problem was our meal. I ordered tuna which was supposed to be served on a lentil and rocket salad but was actually presented on a bed of lettuce with a few bits of cucumber and red onion. Nothing like what the menu described. My boyfriend had fish pie which he described as the worst he had ever eaten. Manager didnt seem at all interested in our comments. My advice - DON'T EAT HERE.

On first impression this is a beautiful old English pub with oak beam decor and charming open fires. The accomodation block is a converted barn building and the double room that I stayed in was clean and very comfortable. Where this place really lets itself down is the standard of service. The owner/manager seems to have a policy of employing only Eastern European staff who have little command of the English language and who can only be described as incompetent and inefficient. The White Horse Inn seems to pride itself on its restaurant, and the menu certainly looks appetising. However, further disappointment looms when dining in the restaurant. On requesting the monk fish, I was told that they had run out - a little disappointing for 8pm on a Saturday evening. I then decided on the duck with stir fried vegetables and noodles - which was delivered to me without the noodles. The duck itself was pretty bland and tough and not of the standard I'd expect for a dish that costs £15. On informing the manager that there were no noodles, he promptly disappeared into the kitchen. A tiny bowl of noodles was dumped on my table by a waitress with no word of apology, and the manager ignored me for the rest of the evening, not even bothering to see if everything else was OK. This was all after ordering a decent bottle of white wine and being told that they'd run out of wine coolers as they 'only have 3 of them'. All in all I had a relatively pleasant stay at the White Horse Inn, which was marred by the standard of service and under-prepared and over-priced restaurant. This is a real shame, as this place has the potential to be outstanding. A visit from Gordon Ramsay would soon sort it out!
