What a great place ! Open fires, friendly and helpful staff. We visited the fox for a change with my parents and our 3 children, always difficult when you take parents with you ! But we were all thoroughly delighted the food was tasty, hot and beautifully cooked. The place was clean and warm including the toilets. Very good value for money . The landlord stefan even made a point of coming over to check all well, always a lovely touch ! So well done the fox great afternoon thanks xx will see you next Sunday !

Don't eat here! I'm very sorry but I have just eaten here and couldn't say a thing nice about the meal except for the quantity of food which really doesn't add up to much when it is so badly prepared. I'm sorry because the pub seemed really nice, 10/10 for service with a modest yet versatile beverage selection and a 10/10 atmosphere. I had the texmex steak. I spent half the meal trying to find the steak as it was such a small, thin gristley cut. It seemed obvious that the chilli and cheese it had been smothered in was to hide this fact. This comes with a portion of thick 'spicy' chips. The spice I could handle but they also tasted like they had raw herbs sprinkled extremely liberally on them - to the point of inedibility. I personally don't like rocket or spiky lettuce which was most of the salad although I fully understand that other people would. This is purely personal opinion at this juncture. Overall get the feeling that the chef was a novice and tried too hard with his/her spice rack to wow and conceal thebudget of the meal and ended up making me fee ill. I had a very miserable and disappointing meal which unfortunately did not finish when I left the restaurant. I was in a party of 7. Four of which were OK with the meal, one who loved it and one who felt the same as me. I'm absolutely gutted to say that it was one of the worst meals I've endured in my life.

THE FOX INN STOURTON HAS ALWAYS BEEN A FIRM FAVOURITE FOR IT IS IN A DELIGHTFUL SETTING AND HAS AN EXTREEMLY WARM AND FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE, AND OFFERS EXCELLENT SERVICE. I HAVE NEVER HAD A MEAL I COULD CRITICISE IN ANY WAY. NOW TO ADD TO THE EXPERIENCE AT THE FOX INN A NEW CHEF HAS STARTED WITH FOOD YOU COULD DIE FOR, FOR EXAMPLE I HAD THE KING PRAWNS TO START, PERFECTLY COOKED. THEN CRISPY DUCK ON A BED OF STIR FRY ABSOLUTELY MAGIC, WE ALL EAT EVERY MORSAL. I CHOSE THE HOUSE SAVIGNON BLANC WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE A NEW ZEALAND WINE, DELIGHTFUL AND SERVED AT THE CORRECT TEMPERATURE. I WOULD STRESS TO EVERYONE VISIT THE FOX INN FOR A FOOD, WINE AND SERVICE EXPERIENCE THAT COULD NOT BE BEATEN.

The Fox has always been a favourite pub, great situation, lovely decor and ambiance in the bar, but avoid it if you want good service. Three lunches ordered, two were fine the third, a hot beef sandwich, was very, very tough, when the waitress asked the obligatory,'everything alright' and we said the beef was tough she walked off without either acknowledging she'd heard our reply or doing anything about it. The beef was struggled with but mostly left on the side of the plate, when the second waitress/ manager arrived to clear the table she too asked if the meal had been ok, we repeated our concern and all she could reply was 'Yes I know the waitress told me'. No apology or slightest concern that we had not been happy with the quality of our food! Having paid up front nothing more could have been done from our end, but I expected a lot more from them, some concern, re-imbursemnt maybe. Avoid completely or be cautious in what you order and don't expect good service.

We are a party of mature ladies who have regularly used this restaurant for many years, it's such a shame that we have seen it deteriorate to the point that we feel we have to inform others. The quality and quantity of the food was very poor, and the cleanliness of the glasses and crockery was appauling, when asked if everything was ok by the manager, we aired our views thinking that at the very least he would appologise and were astonished that he tried to justify that he thought everything was fine! Our meals were Chicken & Asparagus Pie served with Pesto Bread and Rib Eye Steaks, they were served with 1 tiny bowel of French Fries, (in the past we would have had 3 variety of vegetables, chunky home made chips & a potato dish)accompanying the meal. We certainly will not be going back again, and would advise anyone not to eat here!!

We came across this place, whilst out on a bike ride on Bank Holiday Monday. Arriving about 12.45 in the afternoon, we just wanted a good pub sandwich, drink and on our way. Have to agree with other reviews, the pub has alovely setting and has been well done out. But thats as far as the compliments go Im afraid. The coffee my fiance had was only luke warm, it then took 35 minutes for them to make a steak ciabatta and a cajun chicken sandwich. Despite asking the staff where the food was twice, not once did someone come back and let us know. Eventually when the food did come, the steak was dry, tough and extremely well done, not medium rare like i asked ( how hard is it to flash fry a thin piece of steak for less than 1 minute each side!??!) and the chicken was dry too. I asked for my money back for the steak, which they duly paid back. When we arrived there was only a party of 3 eating there, so its not even like the kitchen was busy! - avoid this if you want a nice meal out, it simply isnt worth it.

We are are normally just on our way out or nearly home so we've not called into this pub for many years, but having travelled back from Southport today, we decided to call in for Sunday Lunch and whilst I can't say it wasn't nice, I can say it was really very strange. Let me set the scene. We wanted a pub lunch with a Sunday roast etc. We went in and thought how nice and comfortable the bars looked. Very modern interior so we thought great, this will do for us. We had been ushered out of the one bar into another which we thought a little odd. In this bar, they served us with drinks and showed us to a table and gave us the menu. It was a little sparse but it had what we wanted so we carried on. We ordered lunch and eagerly waited it. In the meantime, I popped off to the loo but when I got back one of the staff told us our table was ready. How strange we thought but went into the restaurant as requested. We had travelled that morning from a boozy time at a Pontin's 80's weekend, we were in jeans and rag-tops, we weren't prepared for a restaurant meal and ideally wanted a meal where we were sat. This bar would have been perfect, the restaurant was the worst experience I've ever had. The staff I must say were really very nice but the dining room is a cheap disco bar, with cheap cafe cutlery, along with cheap cafe salt & pepper pots. I had roast pork but the knife handle was sharper than the blade, the fork bent because of the pressure I was putting onto the knife. I thought it must be under new management as no one with any experience would do anything like this The bottom line is: They built our expectations so high from the moment we walked in but then dropped us like hot stones when the food was ready Staff Quality 10 Food Quality 10 Bar Quality 10 Restaurant Quality 0 Never again.

haha! reading these bad reviews set a bell the size of big ben ringing. It seems pointless to outline my experience tonight as that would only repeat what has already been written by the clearly disgruntled patrons of this terrible establishment. Although I will add that the particular response I recieved upon complaining was that the police would be called!! I was with my obviuosly dangerous and threatening 5'4" 80 year old father!!! again - AVOID, AVOID, AVOID

I can not belive these people. We had our xmas party there and I have to say the staff and food were first class. The DJ of whom I have seen before was outstanding and got the place rocking... well done to Steff and the team and a big thank you to the DJ.

We went hoping for a decent Sunday lunch. Like Heidi's review the busy car park suggested a popular place although we were mystified by the empty bar and lounge. We were given the menu to read in a pleasant room that felt welcoming. We probably should have had our clues from one of the starters on the menu - melon with fruit cocktail. We were then ushered into 1975. A large room with the ambience of a Benidorm function room mixed up with a funeral parlour awaited us with our small table seeming to be on a dance floor. Taking pride of place in the centre of the room was a long table laden with puddings - Black Forest Gateau, Pavlova, Lemon Meringue etc etc. Behind the pudding table a strange wooden building with a pointed roof and columns - reminding us of a mausoleum and making us think that the puddings should be replaced with a coffin. Our starters arrived about 10 seconds after we had sat down (before we had chance to escape presumably) and were hot which is the best I can say about them. We had both ordered roast beef dinners. The beef was tasty but fatty. The vegetables were acceptable but predictable peas and carrots. The Yorkshire puddings were oddly stuffed with cooked cold slices of parsnip!! The older members of staff all looked and dressed like they took to the dance floor after all us diners had gone for a spot of ballroom dancing. The walls were painted lemon. We skipped pudding. Only worth a visit if you want to experience food like you used to get in a Berni Inn 30 years ago. If you have got used to tasting nice things like ciabatta, mascapone, houmous, sea bass and anything else from the 21st century then you will hate this place. The whole experince was just bizarre and not one we shall repeat.

Wow, I thought, a Freehouse with a full carpark, usually a good sign on a Sunday that the locals know where to eat. I was a little worried that Motorbike riders had to "book", could it be their leathers didn't fit the atmosphere of what appeared to be a pleasant county pub, or has the Fox been invaded at some time in the past by Hells Angels with gourmet credentials?..the entrance bar was ermmm..nice...the reception by a mature member of staff...errr..nice...so as we viewed the menu we were lulled into a state of niceness...the comfy seats, the Italian atmosphere, well ok, the Italian menus on the walls...still, all adds to the gastric juices eh? Food duly ordered and a well kept Pint served we were then whisked into a large function room...ye Gods!A definate whiff of Butlins does Espana! In this atmosphere the finest food would struggle..I felt cheated, the promised subdued lighting and intimacy of the other rooms had been replaced with a terrible wedding feast and worst of all I was going to pick up the bill! My advice ...If you apppreciate a good wine with your meal , take one in your handbag and pay corkage, the wine list here lacks both imagination and a decent bottle. The food was in tune with the price tag, 3 courses for around 12-15 quid. Most important of all , ask where you will be eating! The friendly soft furnishings of the small restaurant and bar looked great , but Beware..the function room is only suitable for sheep and for those who truly enjoyed the package holiday atmosphere of Marbella...baaaaaaaaaaa!

Contrary to the few missing boiled potatoes! The meal myself and my colleagues from Asda, Merry Hill were served was great. The food was hot and the service was fine considering there were about 100 plus diners to be served. And the Rod Stewart tribute just made our nite. Definatley be there this year.

We will never be going back to the fox again, £35 for a meal with with half of it missing. we went for our annual xmas meal, they ran out of boiled potatoes so we had to have all roast instead, but they were hard as bricks. we tried to complain but no one wanted to know, i was disgusted with the service.

I have just searched the web site for the telephone number of The Fox Inn at Stourton as I intend to book a meal for my family and friends. My wife and I visited and were so impressed by the friendly atmosphere and the warm welcome we were extended that we thought it would be a treat for my extended family. The food was quite obviously cooked with great care to detail and the young serving staff were a pleasure. I can thoroughly recommend this to anyone looking for excellent food, fine company and an excellent country scene. One to be booked at all costs and not at all apauling (oh! sorry appalling ! )So don't forget and take your partener (oh ! sorry partner).

My partner and I visited the Fox for the first time yesterday and all that I can say is that this establishment is an avoid at all costs. The atmosphere of the resaurant is non existent and the staff are appauling. when given raw food to eat we alerted the waitress who instead of asking what we would like to do simply took the food away microwaved it and brought it back without saying a word. when I expressed my opinion to the restaurant manager, a particularly unpleasant person, with a discrete complaint she gave myself and my partener a barrage of abuse. If both the fox and the restaurant manager believe that her '30 years of experience' have created a good environment for diners then they are very badly mistaken. To top off what was already a diappointing time we were accused at volume on the way out in front of a bar full of customers of trying to con a meal from this establishment. The fox really needs to take note of the fact that a diner who sends a meal back does so for a reason and arguing that he/she is incorrect when surrounded by vocally dissatisfied diners is really not a way to run a business. I did not see the hundreds of satisfied customers the reastaurant manger spoke of just a dozen people eating poor food in a poor atmosphere. AVOID AVOID AVOID
