We were told that the Craven Arms was worth a visit as it was full of charm etc etc... so off we set for a Sunday Lunch outing. The building and friendliness of the staff cannot be faulted, however, the food really left us feeling less than satisfied. I had Belly Pork with bubble and squeak but it turned out to be the toughest piece of meat I have ever had placed in front of me. My wife and daughter had the beef Sunday roast. This was also extremely tough, so much so that my wife gave up and we had to persuade our 4 yr old daughter to spit out the meat as we were worried that she would try to swallow it before it was chewed properly. So why didn't we complain??? Well, th couple opposite us were raving about the food...... must have had very good jaw muscles... and the owner was with his friends at the bar and I was in no mood to debate whether the food was good or bad.... Now after consideration I wish I had as I think it only fair that others should not pay for something that is simply not good enough. I have since asked my friends if they have ever tried the Craven Arms ... a lot have and would never go back... some say service was bad but ALL say food was terrible... And so, my advice to the owner is SACK your chef, he/she has not a clue about food, and get yourself a qualified chef who knows what they're doing and produces food that would compliment what can only be described as an atmospheric pub in a wonderful setting.

I had to write and say what a fantastic spot this is. The newly built cruck barn looks like its always been there! The pubs has been carefully preserved and is truly like a trip back in time. The food was lovely too with proper large portions of high quality produce. Will definitley be back Sarah

Well, I have to say I am very fussy when it comes to good food- spoilt by having a professional chef for a mother- and this place was brilliant!!! I had the steak with goat's cheese and it was perfect. The portions were extremely generous- and I can eat alot- the steak was cooked to perfection, the potatoes were incredible, the vegetables were mouth watering and the hosts couldn't have been friendlier if we had paid them!!! The chocolate cake for dessert was out of this world!!! We went with a crowd of us for a good meal and it was well worth the trip!!! The menu was well priced, if not surprisingly modest for the quality and standard of food served! I will most definately be going back!!! Thank you very much!!!
