I used this hotel in January 2007 while in Newcastle on business. The hotel is clean and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Parking was at the rear of the hotel. The rooms are clean and spacious; the hotel claims they are the biggest rooms in Newcastle. All rooms are on suite with a bath and shower and electric heaters if it gets cold. There is a TV which has all terrestrial channels and SKY NEWS and all SKY SPORTS channels as well as a selection of Radio channels. I was very happy with the room. Breakfast is served from 7.00 am each morning and features a wide selection of dishes and drinks. Breafast is a self serve buffet affair but the food is generally excellent. There is a bar and bistro connected to the hotel called Billabong. These are quite expensive, though it must be said that the food is of a high standard. Around the hotel are quite a few other hotel bars and bars. The best of these is Osbornes, which is right across the street from the Caledonian. Each night this bar has a happy hour promotion and you get to press a button to stop a moving image on the TV screens, which then gives you the price of your drink. I managed to get a couple of pints of Kronenburg for £1.00 each, which was half price. Osbornes is a very busy bar. The metro is a short walk away from the hotel. I reccomend this hotel to anyone seeking basic, but decent accomodation when on business in Newcastle.
