Lovely location, but after we eventually were shown to our table and ordered drinks, my glass of red wine was brought to me not only dripping red wine around the rim so that the waiter had to wipe the table, but there were fingermarks all around the glass and lipstick around the rim. A good start! A second glass was brought, but this too, although clean, was soaking wet and dripping around the rim again. Things didnt improve as we had to wait ages for the meal to be served, and at that time there were only 6-8 other diners. When it eventually came, the short crust pastry on the pie was non existent and then I found what appeared to be a small mouthful of soggy pastry underneath the filling. Had it been turned out upside down? Beef was tender but very salty. Vegetables were okay, and the fish and chips were acceptable, but we will not be recommending or visiting again. Could certainly have been so much better.

After a nice long walk with my friends and children we came for a quick drink at 5.30 on a Saturday afternoon. As soon as we sat down I was asked if the pram could be left outside as the pub got busy at that time (although the pram was not in anyones way). When I explained that my daughter was inside, the gentlemen behind the bar said “oh I didn’t realise the baby was still in the pram”. He didn’t seem very pleased that the pram was in the pub. I fed my 5 week old daughter and afterwards she got quite upset as she suffers from wind. I tried to pacify her so not to disturb too many people inside the pub, but I was shocked and upset to be asked “could I keep her quiet” by a member of staff. This was one of my first trips out to a public place since she was born and as a first time mother was made to feel like a second class citizen. I have grown up in the area all my life and have visited the pub a number of times in the last 30 years (since a child) and am reluctant to return. I was under the impression this was a family friendly pub but how wrong was I. As so many public houses are under threat, I would have thought they would value my custom. We quickly drank our drinks and left prematurely and bitterly disappointed.

I concur this pub has the best food in the area if you are looking for good value for money and good wholesome choice. Liver is to die for, Faitas are superb and my son's eyes went bog eyed at the plate of spag bog. Excellent service by staff who are always happy to help. A pleasuarable evening.

This pub is a great place to be summer and winter with a great atmosphere and some of the best cheesy chips you will ever taste. The Landlord is the friendliest landlord you will ever meet. The garden has a pool table a table football and down the end there is a river to moore boats. This pub is highly recommended by me.
