On a recommendation received from our neighbours I decide to invite my family to dinner at the Kings Arms in Mickleton. In total there were eight of us, yet we were able to sit all at the one table beside the open fire, which at this time of year was a significant bonus. The choice of the menu was superb; all the produce was local and delicious, and most importantly cooked to perfection. Even my three vegetarian relatives had choices – which I am informed is rare in Cotswold restaurants – moreover the choices were not second class in relation to the meat dishes one of the options was a substantial aubergine and goats cheese stack which smelt absolutely divine. For those of us who decided to eat meat the choice of Steak was excellent with the portions extensive, the fish was a beautifully cooked Sea bass, with many other fabulous choices available. Not only was the food of this exceptional standard the service was remarkable too, we were promptly shown to our table and efficiently cared for so that not one of us had to leave the table for a drink, a waitress/waiter was always available and better than that always noticing that a table may require service. The starters and mains were served swiftly and then we were offered dessert. The puddings available were tremendous; my personal favourite was the crème Brulee, which I was informed by the waitress, is often flavoured differently each day – vanilla and Baileys are two examples of this. They had Steamed Sticky Toffee Puddings, Bitter Chocolate and Brandy Terrines, and my personal favourite Pistachio ice cream. All the puddings were homemade and tasted so; they were the perfect end to our meal. I hope that I have conveyed my adoration for The Kings Arms in Mickleton because I had there one of my most enjoyable evenings and I encourage all those in the area to pop in even for a quick lunch or dinner as you will not leave feeling disappointed.
