I took a party of 6 including a child for a Carvery, upon arriving we were greeted by the very friendly and courteous Landlord and Ladies they even included my child in conversations (unlike a lot of pubs and restaurants. The Food was outstanding with generous portions of meat and plenty of obviously fresh vegetables cooked perfectly. The Deserts were to die for, with excellent presentation on the plate, absolutely perfect. All in all the food was a gastronomic delight. The interior was very well decorated and absolutely spotless and the staff were very helpful. We shall be definately visiting again.

after reading a few reviews of this hostelry we were in two minds as to try it out,the traffic was heavy what with the impending FESTIVAL just up the road, but we were ventured in.after a cheery welcome from the landlord i tried a pint of their stowford cider (superb)then we ordered food,to say it was good would be an under statement ,it was served quick, pleasantly and piping hot, some pub foods are a bit bland and run of the mill but all there food had flavour and it had been cooked just right,my compliments to the chef and the management on running a good "OLD COUNTRY PUB",me and the mrs will definitely return!!!

After reading the description of the “fabulous food cooked to order using fresh local ingredients” on the website of The Lion at Pennard, my wife & I looked forward with eager anticipation to eating there. Unfortunately, the meal turned out to be one of the worst that we had ever eaten in a so called gastro pub. I ordered duck breast and specifically asked if the chef would cook it pink. I think it must have been pre cooked and then pan fried as it was the toughest, most well done duck breast that I have ever eaten. My wife ordered whiting accompanied by prawns and scallops. The whiting had similarly cooked until it was dry, the prawns still had partial shells on them and the scallops were seventy five per cent coral. To make matters worse, the lemon and chive butter sauce was so runny that the young, inexperienced waiter poured half of the sauce onto the table and then came along with a dirty tea towel and unceremoniously wiped it up and did not offer to take it back to the kitchen to have the plate cleaned up or to have more sauce added. I am not in the habit of complaining about food but when on this occasion I did, the manageress said she was most surprised as they had never had a complaint before. I think she must have just have been referring to that day. To their credit, the chef obviously realised that the duck was almost inedible as, without asking, he deducted it from the bill. Needless to say, we will never return to sample their “fabulous food”

I would recommend The Lion to everyone...very friendly and helpful, excellent food, comfortable room, huge car park and even a skittle alley! Over 2 days, whilst at a wedding, this couldn't have been a better place to stay.

Firstly i would like to congratulate the new owners of this pub, it is a very charming pub, we first visited on the 8th december and the new owners had only taken over on the 5th, the food was excellent, and staff very welcoming. We then ventured back there with family on the 30th december and i must say there was such an improvement on cleanleness and it was lovely and warm and welcoming as always, again the food was excellent can highly recommend the carvery, we inquired about the rooms to stay and was taken over to look around, lovely and warm and all new bedding and very clean, told new bathrooms will be started in 2008, so we will be booking up for a nice little break.

Congratulations to the new administraion. Everywhere has a sense of cleanliness and the bedrooms look and smell very clean. New bed linen makes a big difference. Yes the bathrooms are tired, but they are clean and shiny. New bathrooms promiesd for 2008, so heres to the future. The Lion at Pennard continues to be a great place to eat and offers good value accomodation. The new Chef is providng great eating delights and breakfast better than ever. Nobody gets it right all of the time, but the new team seem to be getting most of it right. Keep it up and see you in the New Year for more enjoyable nights at The Lion.

We had a very pleasant stay. The food was excellent and everyone was very friendly. Though the room was in need of some redecoration it was very clean and fresh. We found out that it was under new management and there were plans in place to update the accomodation. We will definately be returning and would happily recommend it.

Lovely pub and good food. However, the room was in desperate need of decoration and there was hair in the bath. The duvet was covered in stains and hair also. Noisy as party til 4am so didn't get much sleep and were greeted for breakfast by very hung over staff who didn't bother asking what we wanted but just dumped a cooked breakfast in front of us and said that they had forgot to ask us if we wanted something different. Very unprofessional and not that clean. Would not stay there again.

We stayed here with my children when they got christened. The staff were amazingly friendly, the food was out of this world and the locals were more than charming.

Why no dogs allowed? Perhaps a heated outside area with a lean-to roof for cigars and hounds. Beer good, room for food to improve. Perhaps attend to all of these things and there would be a "packed pub" and the community would (and could) bsustain and benefit from this long-term amenity remaining
