Went as a party of 12 for my daughters 40th birthday. We were put in a back room, and basically had to go and order from the hot buffet in the main bar. There was no welcome or follow up to see if the meal was alright, and we were never asked whether we wanted sweet menu, drinks or any other requirements. The staff were fine but we felt almost like intruders and on a previous visit were overcharged by approx £50. Doubt if we will visit again

Well I had heard so much, and what a disappointment. If your idea of Sunday lunch is dried to death roasts, frizzled up old potatoes, soggy veg and miserable staff then please come on down. We went late afternoon granted, but if Sunday dinner is to be served all day, then keep it fresh and keep it covered. The food was tasteless and portions very tight for the price. In the days of £3.50 carveries, if you charge £8 each for 2 meats, then you have to keep it top notch, and it wasnt. The staff.. well this was the worst part. We were with a private party and they completely ignored us in the other room, instead the 3 girls just stood, folding napkins in the other room and being chatted up by 3 rather loud and foul mouthed regulars. To get served you ahd to catch their eyes, and even then get in the queue behind any regular that happened to pop up after you did. Disgusting service, appalling food and will not be returning again.

I stayed at the blacksmiths arms over 2 nights, with with other family members. I was struck by the friendly atmosphere from the moment we arrived. The rooms were comfortable, the decor was just right to make the rooms a comfortable home away from home. The food.....there are not enough words i can think of to explain how wonderful the food was, huge servings of lovingly prepared food, our party (which was a rather large party of about 10 people) everyone chose something different this was not a problem all the food arrived in good time. cant wait to visit again, even though we live 250 miles away will definately be making regular visits here again.

I booked 3 rooms for two nights and requested an afternoon tea and evening meal for 15 people on the occasion of my mum's funeral. This was all done from 200 miles away and at short notice. The service was great the staff were kind and helpful, befitting to the occasion. The food was lovely, plenty of it and at a reasonable price too. My family loved their rooms and were impressed with the cleanliness and super breakfast. We will be visiting The Blacksmiths Arms in the future, next time on a more happy occasion. Thank You All.

Well what can I do apart from gush! The Blacksmiths Arms is beautifully refurbished in modern style with great attention to detail, but maintaining that old fashion warmth. Me and my husband had a wonderful welcome from the lovely owner Jamie, who is truly a breath of fresh air and couldn't be more obliging if he tried! We had the pleasure of staying for 2 nights in the B&B upstairs, which was nothing short of spotless and very nicely layed out. We stayed in room 2, where the bed is ENORMOUS so that was a lovely treat :) Digital TVs in all rooms, coffee and tea, the works! Fab breakfast served with a smile and great home cooked food all day. Staff all very efficient and friendly too. We would highly recommend this place and plan to go again in the near future, especially now we hear they are opening a new carvery! Many Thanks to Jamie and the whole team. 10/10

Went for an evening meal with my husband and son. I had steak and guinness pie, my husband chicken curry. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal, proper pub grub at its best! They have a good childrens menu with all the favourites there. Jamie couldnt be more welcoming if he tried. We have also been for sunday lunch but disagree with the earlier review about the gravy, i found this made my meal even more enjoyable. We will definitely be going back, 10/10

on recomendation went for an evening meal and was not dissapointed. The food and service were both excellant only fault was that you got far to much to eat if that can be a bad thing. did`nt catch the name of the man behind the bar/waiter but his personality and enthusiasm for his job made our evening very enjoyable will definatley recommend to others.

Had meal at Blacksmiths. Service excellent, served within about 10 mins. Meal very good, attractively served. Surrounding very pleasant, restful and stylish. Last but not least mine host Jamie who was most welcomingly and attentive. Highly recommended.

I myself took a large party of family members to the Blacksmith Arms for Mothers day. As this was my first visit to the Blacksmith arms I had high hope for a pleasent afternoon...and i wasnt dissapointed. The venue is stunning and the table was set up to a high standard. We were greeted by the landlord Jamie who honestly could not do enough for us. The meal was exceptinal and in keeping with a traditional Sunday lunch. I found the staff well trained and the service was very fast and my whole party said how much they had enjoyed it and we will definatly be returning there again in the near future.

Went for Sunday lunch as a birthday treat for my partner's son. Meal was presented to a high standard and would have been impressive except that the gravy had an overpowering nasty taste of lamb. When the matter was raised with the staff they acknowledged that all the meat roasting juices went into the gravy pot. Pity that lamb happened to be pretty heavy on the menu that day and all my party dislike lamb - which is why we expected BEEF gravy with our ROAST BEEF. Poor response to our complaint shows poor staff training and my partner (who was a waitress in a top restaurant a few years ago)was unimpressed. We'll never eat there again.
