Wow, what a difference, we learnt a new manager took over a couple of months ago. Have not been to the bay inn for a while but went tonight for a family birthday. The food was fantastic and the service was amazing. The staff were so attentive. Small details like fresh lillies in the ladies make a lovely touch. Would highly recommend and will definately be going back. Thanks guys

Decided to go to The Bay for a late lunch on Saturday. We haven't been for ages so were surprised at how empty it was. There was only another 2 tables occupied - but it was only 4pm ish. I heard the girl behind the bar say she was the new manager.
Food has increased in price and I'd say it's dearer than most Edinburgh pubs I visit.
We started off with nachos - I didn't pay attention to the price until we got our bill.
£7.95!! Rip off. For a bag of crisps (a lot broken) some melted cheese + small tubs of salsa and sour cream.
I then had the chicken enchilada - really small pieces of chicken + not enough!
My partner had the steak pie - he said the steak was nice but the pastry hard
Sadly I won't be back
The girls serving were very nice though

What a great place to have a meal and a drink. Food was just amazing and staff were very polite and helpful (asking us if everything was ok) and we were surprised by the bill-much cheaper than we thought it would be. Will definitely be going back. Ten out of ten.

The service was extremely poor, I waited 10 Mins for a drink they wernt very polite, I ordered jalpeno chicken with chips the chips were burnt and very low budget, the chicken was under cooked I sent it back in the end, with no apologies or discount. In all the clubhouse I find better value, I had the haggis fritter which was extremely greasy and tasteless do yourself a favour don't go there. I wouldn't normally write a review but I found the service and food so bad I had too thanks andrew

On Saturday the 26th March our party of four attended a celebration meal in the Bay Inn.
I was my son's Siver Wedding anniversary and he had brought his wife from London to visit Scotand.
My husband and I suggested the Bay Inn for a meal.
There were two starter meals - one soup & one chicken dippers.
For our main meal - Chicken Scewers, two steak pie and lasagne.
One of the steak pies was really cold -so was sent back. When it was returned - a long time later - it was found to be swimming in grease. We should this to the waitress who agreed it was 'greasy' (a young teacher was waiting) so it was also sent back. Therefore my husband who had no starter had no meal at all.
I ordered a sweet and my son also ordered one - his was supposed to be a crumble with custard. He was so looking forward to the 'crunchy' topping - but there was none. We called the waitress over again and she agreed it was more like a sponge - so it was sent back.
We enjoyed several drink then my son paid - the waitress said there would be no charge for the two sweets???
My husband and I have used the Bay Inn for years and have never encountered such bad meals.
Please understand that I don't complain in restaurants - and had it been just my husband and myself using our local - I wouldn't - but to have taken my visitors there was so disappionting.

When we arrived the table that was booked for 10 only had 8 seats, there were no childrens menus on the table and when i booked i told them there were 3 children in our party! There were only us and 1 other party in the conservatory and we were squashed together when clearly there was lots of other room! It took 45 mins to take our orders, was not impressed with portion sizes of the main meals for the prices! the children all ordered pizza from the childrens menu but when it came it was 2 pieces of garlic bread turned upside down with tomatoe puree and cheese on it! watery macaroni cheese, curdled carbonara, best part of the meal was the sweets! drinks were not flowing, we had to keep reordering!when the bill came we were already told that we wouldnt be charged for the childrens meals,so we got the bill and were going to pay it when they came out with a revised bill which was 30 quid dearer, so they were politely told that that was very unprofessional and that we would be paying the first bill! regardless to say that we will not be eating at The Bay Inn again and will not be recommending it to friends!

Well what can I say. Food has gone so far downhill since I returned home last September. Steak was tough with curdled cream in the so called Diane Sauce, Chips were cold and veg was bland, Home made Onion rings need proper batter. Found the staff not bad but they certainly seem to be disheartened and not bothered about service. Our soup took 30 mins to arrive and then it was luke warm. Whats happened Bay Inn? Where have all the pleasant staff and quality meals gone?

well were do i start took my mum here for her 50th birthday. it was a nightmare we went in and i asked the lassie what something was on the menu and she says she didnt no because it was a new menu and she didnt even ask the chef what it was which i found it was quite bad. then we ordered and i think the stuff is overly priced and was disgusted in that aswell.the food came and the roast tatties were burnt and we asked the woman to come over and take them back she says that there was nothing wrong with the tatties and she says the chef says that they will come back the same as how they were already what kind off chef is that. the lamb you could not cut as there was that much grizzle minging and i would not have ate that. i had a lasagae and it looked like it was there all day. the veg was minging aswell they had v=carrot and turnip mashed together and the peas were so watery yuk. we used to go there all the time but we will not be now as i think it will not be there much longer with the prices being bad and the food disgusting. i am so sad that i had to write this but i think it is true

The food was delicious! Mango chicken was to die for. Waiting staff were friendly and kept checking back on our table. Couldn't fault it! Will definately be going back.

We looked forward to a meal here after some excellent food offered a couple of years ago. The Chicken Caesar salad used to be a favourite. Lots of fresh vegetables and hand cut chicken with a nice proportion of dressing and a generous serving of shaved Parmesan. Now just a 'salad' with pre cooked /shaped chicken swimming in dressing. I had Beef with Haggis and onion gravy. Beef looked like it had been sitting for a while and was tough. Vegetables were passable.
Service. We were offered the menu but had to ask for the drinks menu. Was then asked for our choice of meals but had not ordered our drinks. Ordered a bottle of South African Chenin Blanc. A cold bottle of Chilean Chardonnay arrived! I opened it before I realised. Also a small point but I feel important. Spelling mistakes and gramatical errors with the menu. A couple behind had their bill reduced because of unsatisfactory food. Guy behind the bar stated that the live music in the bar was a way of attracting new custom as the 'attraction' of food was "levelling off". I would suggest they quit the music industry for help and concentrate and quickly improve on what they currently provide.

Really nice service but two veggie breakfasts were ordered and there was nothing to them. For 75p more we could have had two bacon rashers, two pork sausages and a black pudding. There were no veggie options. We wouldn't have minded too much but when we ordered extra toast we were charged £4! And they forgot to top up our coffee. Two meagre breakfasts came in at £15.50. Never again

the food is great but i am not so keen on the staff members. i had to ask for steak cutlery, ask for more drinks, the waitresses were just standing about and at some point they were no where to be seen. i will not be visiting again as i felt like the staff werent really bothered. as i said food was lovely well cooked and well presented just wasnt happy with the waiting staff.

I have been going to the Bay Inn for about 5 years and it is the best now it has ever been. It is homely, friendly and the food is good unpretentious grub.
Excellent staff and yes - it is my local. Hope it never changes.

I think The Bay Inn is fantastic. Its usualy so buisy you cant get in unless you book a table, and to me that is a good recomendation. Ive always had good food and a freindly service from them. I've never been upstairs in the restaurant though. Ive always sat downstairs, where the decor is lovely.

This was our first visit. We booked late and were seated upstairs in I presume what used to be a disco. It was cold (temperature wise) and the decor was uninviting. It felt very much like an overspill annexe. The background music was hardly that. It was far too loud. The staff were friendly and polite. They lit the candle on our table when asked . It would have been a nice touch if they did so without prompting. The starters were fine but we waited 30 minutes after ordering. A further 30 minutes wait for our main course. This wasn't worth the wait. The food could only be described as bland unseasoned and uninteresting. We were disapointed considering the review this establishment received in the local press, but we maybe visited on a bad day. The house red was excellent though.

I dont think Liz's comment was very fair 2 the bay inn. I have been several times myself and I think there is a large choice of foods and the waiters n waitresses are more than friendly, i've never had to wait but I have booked a few of the times I have been which would be adviseable to stop waiting. I don't think you can penalise a resturant for you having to wait on a table..that obviously shows popularity n the staff have been more than satisfactory from my experience

over 1/2hr wait for lunch asked how long it would be told not too long. Waitress said you can see we are busy. I suggested they should advise customers how long they could expect to wait. Waitress not happy ended up complaining to manager. Do not think staff have necessary skills to work with public.
