Travelling again through Wales. We headed for the The Black Mountain Inn After a rather disappointing stay in Camarthen, hoping to repeat our last visit. Nothing had changed and we were welcomed as old friends as soon as we arrived (albeit we are English). My husband now has a few words of the Welsh vocabulary which we were assured will aid in our endurance holiday through out Wales. We were given a guided tour of the mountain and taken to the Red Kite station (although could see them form the pub quite clearly) then saw the veiws of the 'Fathers and the Granfathers of Wales'. One word 'Spectaular'. We would recommend this place to anyone who wants a decent pint of beer with a local welcome and great veiws of Wales as well.

My husband and I were visiting relatives but were unable to find a rental cottage at short notice. The place was recommended by a local man Gary, and sits at the foot of the Black Mountain within yards of the most fabulous views and walks in Wales. Brynamman itself is a bit grotty and has been suffering since the closure of the coal mines since the 1980's but has several foody takeaways (which are surprisingly good) a working cinema and you can walk to the mountain in less than 2 minutes where its another world! Fantasic rocky terrain up winding uninhabited road, sheep and welsh mountain ponies that eat from your hand. Our biggest surprise was the welcome. Within an hour of our arrival at The Black Mountain Inn, and despite being English; we were introduced to everyone and left a week later with friends for life. Sonya (landlady) was extremely friendly and helpful; she even carried our bags to the room. The room was clean and basic but adequate for our needs and I'm told will be under going decoration before next summer. The bathroom was a little old fashioned but spacious and clean. We slept better than we have in years, after a bowl of cawl (local soup) provided free as the Rugby was on and a few pints of the local Dark beer. The breakfast in the morning was great well above average and the tables were not crammed too close together like in many places. Sonya advised us of some walks and recommended some local restaurants (pity she didn't do evening meals her Sunday lunch was great). Based on our total experience and room allocated to us this place was excellent value for money. We can't wait to go back to see the mountain in the snow at Christmas.
