Salen is a small village on the beautiful Island of Mull, the second largest Island of the Inner Hebrides which is positioned off the western coast of Scotland, and is home to just over two and a half thousand people. It overlooks the Sound of Mull at the heart of the island, and has an interesting history which dates far back in time. The Island has been inhabited since the Bronze Age Settlers whose legacies of Cairns and Standing Stones can be found close by, and it was visited by St Columba in the 500's, although the village of Salen did not evolve until the 1800's when the Laird of the time decided that it was a convenient location to build a village that was close to his estate. A stroll around Salen will reveal attractive stone cottages and white washed houses that have stood the test of time, a fine 19th Century church, general store, a choice of restaurants with tempting menus, and a bar serving a warming dram or two. The pretty location will always tempt visitors and holidaymakers alike with stunning views of the Morvern Hills, dramatic surrounding countryside, a choice of places to stay from welcoming hotels, cottages, and comfortable B&B's, together with its close proximity to the village of Craignure and its Ferry Terminal.
