Crumlin, a country village in south-west Antrim, enjoys mixed benefits. It's blessed with lovely riverside and woodland scenery but it's also really close to Belfast International Airport, and it links easily to Belfast city, Antrim and Lisburn. At the same time, Crumlin's proximity to Lough Neagh attracts many fans of fishing and water sports. A former mill village producing textiles, timber and flour, Crumlin now cultivates farm produce and acts as a commuter base. However, its history is never far from view. An old linen mill, dating back to 1809, provides a period location for antiques shops, while the 1897 stone clock tower, beside the station, dominates the main street. More contemporary is a remarkable triple-level railway and river bridge, described as "a bridge over a bridge over a river". Crumlin Glen, with its steeply wooded slopes, river and cascading waterfalls, is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, as is the T.A.C.T. wildlife centre, housing several hundred rescued birds and animals. The village's week-long summer festival, meanwhile, is packed with fun and games for everyone. Not far out of Crumlin, Dundrod's motorcycle racing is a huge draw, and there's motorbike, go-kart and stock-car racing at Nutt's Corner.
