Letcombe Regis is a village in the Vale of the White Horse, arranged around a steep-sided Oxfordshire valley that is the source of the Letcombe Brook which rises at nearby Letcombe Bassett. It is 1.5 miles from Wantage on the edge of the Berkshire Downs. Letcombe Regis is in prime horse racing country and is a racing village with four stables. There are gallops held at Black Bushes and nearby villages such as Letcombe Bassett, East Hendred, Lockinge and Uffington also have stables. The village has three manor houses. The original manor house is called the Old Manor. The second manor house, Antwicks Manor, is believed to be on the site of a royal hunting lodge. It was substantially rebuilt at the end of the 19th century. The third manor house is more recent and houses the Letcombe Laboratory. Letcombe Regis has one pub/restaurant, The Greyhound Inn, from the steps of which the Riot Act was reputedly read for the last time in England. The parish church is the church of St Andrew which stands on a mound at the centre of the village. Parts of the church date from the 12th century. Nearby is the Ridgeway hill fort, Letcombe Castle, also known as Segsbury Camp.
