Situated on the magnificent Causeway Coast, the small seaside resort of Portstewart has traditionally enjoyed a grander, quieter reputation than its close neighbour Portrush. The promenade curves in a crescent shape around a sheltered bay and, in this area, all kinds of adventure activities are laid on for children during the summer, from motorised boats and cars to bouncy castles and slides. At the eastern end of the promenade is a small harbour. At the western end lies Portstewart Strand, a two-mile stretch of golden beach and sand dunes - a haven for butterflies and wild flowers. The Barmouth area, where the River Bann flows into the Atlantic Ocean, is home to many varieties of wildfowl and nesting birds. There are sensational cliff and coastal walks leading out of town in both directions, and golfers will enjoy the challenges of Portstewart Golf Club's Strand Course, as well as its spectacular views. In the town itself, holiday-makers enjoy the ice-cream parlours and an array of fascinating gift shops, while the Flowerfield Arts Centre has a changing programme of musical performances and arts and crafts exhibitions. Night owls, meanwhile, can indulge all their eating, drinking and clubbing requirements at the Anchor Bar Complex.
