| 10 Places to Stay

The picturesque village of Dunfanaghy is situated on Donegal's rugged north-west coast, on the shores of Sheephaven Bay. Nestling at the foot of sweeping hills, mountains and glens, Dunfanaghy is a place where holiday-makers can truly relax amid beautiful scenery. As a one- time fishing port, it continues to attract anglers, with many hoping for the chance to land one or two of the local wild brown trout. Dunfanaghy boasts long, golden beaches to the north and south, and water-based activities in the area range from boating to surfing and sailboarding. Back on dry land, the 18-hole Dunfanaghy golf links course offers spectacular sea and mountain views and an excellent sporting challenge. The village also acts as a superb base for exploring the glories of the countryside on horseback, courtesy of Dunfanaghy Stables, operating from Arnolds Hotel. At the heart of Dunfanaghy is a village square with a 19th century market house, and this is where locals gather for the many street parties and festivals, walks, races and puppet shows held here throughout the year. But as well as taking a fun-loving, laid-back approach to life, Dunfanaghy also remembers the past, welcoming visitors to art galleries, crafts and gift shops, and a heritage centre.
