Barna - also known by its Irish name of Bearna - is a delightful coastal village just a few miles west of Galway city. Over the years, it has become more or less absorbed by Galway, but Barna retains its own unique, friendly character. This makes it an ideal location for visitors seeking a tranquil retreat that is also close to Galway, a lively, fast-growing, fun-filled city famous for its arts and entertainment. Barma is situated on the north shore of the beautiful Galway Bay, and it's close to some splendid beaches, notably Silver Strand, a clean, safe and sandy family favourite with wonderful views over the water. Barna Woods - a conservation area prized for its peaceful oak-tree walks - are another lovely local attraction. There are acres of unforgettable scenery to be enjoyed, too, at the Barna Golf & Country Club. And what could be better after an afternoon's golfing than a delicious dinner at one of Barna's excellent restaurants? Outdoor sports fans have plenty of choice around here, with water activities including angling, sailing, rowing and cruising. And those wishing to explore the wider area are within easy reach of the wild, rugged landscapes of Connemara and, in County Clare, the dramatic uplands of The Burren.
