The scenic village of Kinvara is situated at the head of an inlet of the world-famous Galway Bay, where it's within easy driving distance of some of Ireland's most awe-inspiring attractions. In its own right, Kinvara has lots going for it, with its fascinating, narrow streets, thatched buildings and picturesque, painted houses recalling times gone by while also offering a warm, contemporary welcome. Visitors will enjoy dining in fine restaurants and pubs that look out over the water and the bobbing boats. Alternatively, they may plump for the novelty of a medieval banquet in the 16th Century Dunguaire Castle, or a simpler picnic with the children on the safe and sandy Trácht beach. People flock to Kinvara for its two popular annual celebrations, the Gathering of the Boats and the Cuckoo Festival (a traditional Irish music event), as well as for outdoor sports and golf at the nearby Gort course, designed amid acres of parkland by Christy O'Connor Junior. Kinvara, in the south of Galway, acts as a gateway to The Burren, an extraordinary upland just across the border in County Clare. To the north lies Galway City, Galway Bay with its adorable seals and dolphins, and the wild beauty of the mountains and lakes in Connemara.
