Kenmare is a small coastal town located at the head of Kenmare Bay and overlooked by the beautiful Cork and Kerry mountains. A perfect spot for those who enjoy an active holiday, Kenmare offers all sorts of sporting opportunities amid spectacular scenery. The bay is at the heart of things, with pleasure boats taking visitors out on trips to spot seals and admire the dramatic views of Kenmare from the sea. Swimming, sailing, canoeing, water-skiing and windsurfing are all very popular around these parts, and the fishing is superb, especially in the numerous rivers and lakes that lie close to the town. Back on dry land, Kenmare boasts two exceptionally scenic golf courses, and the local stables cater for both beginners and experienced riders, who are welcome to explore woodland and mountain trails on horseback. Walkers and cyclists are spoilt for choice, with many paths to follow through the countryside around Kenmare. Drivers are ideally placed to travel two of Ireland's most famous and magnificent routes - the Ring of Kerry, totalling 110 miles, and the slightly longer Ring of Beara. Kenmare itself is a lively, music- loving town with some fine restaurants and galleries showing off traditional arts and crafts.
