The beautiful town of Waterville lies on Kerry's Iveragh Peninsula surrounded by lakes, rivers, mountains and sea. Waterville has become a popular lunch stop for families driving the famous Ring of Kerry scenic road, since it's situated half-way along the route. It's also a great holiday destination, known for its fine, clean, sandy beaches, excellent game fishing and an 18-hole championship golf links course. Charlie Chaplin was one regular visitor to Waterville, and he is commemorated by a statue in the town. Fans of outdoor sports have plenty of choice in and around Waterville, from swimming, sailing, surfing, scuba diving and water-skiing to horse-riding, cycling and walking. Experienced hikers taking on the Kerry Way hill walk will be rewarded with sensational views. Waterville is located on the shores of the lovely Lough Currane. It also looks out over Ballinskelligs Bay to the Skellig Islands in the Atlantic. Visitors taking a boat trip to the islands will find them rich in ancient history and birdlife, with a massive colony of gannets - the second largest in the world. Also well worth a visit is Waterville Craft Market, where hand-made homeware, textiles, clothes and souvenirs show off the best in Irish design.
