The small coastal village of Omeath enjoys an idyllic setting between the mountainous Cooley Peninsula and the beautiful Carlingford Lough, with views across the water to the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland. The Peninsula is composed of tall hills, lushly wooded valleys and the Slieve Foy mountain, which together form a picture- postcard backdrop for the village. Omeath is four miles north of the charming fishing spot of Carlingford, and just a couple of miles from the Northern Ireland border. A summer ferry service operates between the two countries, taking passengers across the lough from Omeath to Warrenpoint in County Down. The countryside around Omeath is ideal for cycling and hill-walking, with breathtaking panoramas unfolding below the higher ground. Drivers heading south into the gentler rural landscapes of Louth can explore the county's numerous historic monuments, castles and other ancient buildings. Outdoor activities in Omeath include angling, sailing, golf and horse-riding, while the Tain Adventure Centre, gloriously situated on the shores of the lough, provides all kinds of sports, from rock-climbing and abseiling to windsurfing and kayaking, for pre-booked parties. The people of Louth traditionally enjoy street parties and celebrations, and Omeath is no exception, holding a fun-filled village festival every summer
