| 10 Places to Stay

Navan, the friendly, compact county town of Meath, has everything it takes for an all-round family holiday, from entertainment and sports to scenery and sight-seeing. It was once famous for producing carpets and furniture, and although these industries have declined, Navan has grown to become a leading centre for business and commerce. It also boasts the biggest zinc and lead mine in Europe. This a great place for retail therapy, with a shopping centre, small, independent shops and a weekly open-air market catering for every taste. There are numerous fine restaurants and pubs, a lively nightlife and a choice of gyms and leisure centres to work off all that irresistible eating and drinking. For culture, look no further than the Solstice Arts Centre, presenting exhibitions and performances. In sporting circles, the town is well-known for the esteemed Navan Racecourse, and the local golf course is one of several in the area. Navan is located at the confluence of the great rivers Boyne and Blackwater, and walkers will enjoy some beautiful riverside and woodland paths. A little way outside the town, there are panoramic views over the county from Navan Motte. And the mysterious Hill of Tara is just a short drive away.
