Choppington is a village in Northumberland. It is 5 miles to the south-east of Morpeth, and north of Bedlington. It was at one time part of the three big mid-Northumberland Colleries (Ashington, Bomarsund and Choppington), and many older locals will tell you that they either worked A, B or C. Pubs in Choppington include The Swan and The Shakespeare Tavern. The delights of this part of Northumberland include the Market Town of Morpeth and the unspoilt Northumbrian Coast. Choppington is 4 miles from the Woodhorn Museum and Archives in the Queen Elizabeth II Country Park, Ashington. Morpeth Castle was built in the fourteenth century on the site of an earlier fortress. Only the gatehouse and parts of the ruined castle walls remain. Other historical landmarks in the town are a free-standing 17th-century clock tower, a grand town hall, a 13th-century chapel called The Chantry - now the tourist information centre, and Collingwood House. Another prominent landmark in Morpeth is the Court House, built in 1820, and now used as an apartment block and fitness centre. Just a few miles away are the beaches of Druridge and Newbiggin by the Sea where the Sean Henry sculpture "COUPLE" is positioned on the breakwater.
