Lowick is a quiet village in northern Northumbria that skirts the edge of the Kyloe Hills, surrounded by picturesque countryside, and is the gateway to the Cheviot Hills. Walkers enjoy stunning views on a gentle stroll, or for the those wishing to follow in ancient footsteps there is St Cuthbert’s Way which is not for faint hearts as it stretches 62 miles between Melrose and the Holy Island. For the curious the Art Gallery in the village has interesting paintings and craft items on display. Or perhaps the promise of the mystical vision of Lindisfarne will tempt a visit to the Holy Island, where Monks and Pilgrims journeyed across the tidal Causeway, that leads to the impressive Tudor Fort standing high on rocky Beblowe Crag, it has intriguing treasure from times long past to share. A chance to wander around the garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll should be eagerly taken. Or maybe the spectacular coastline will beckon as it’s home to seals, birds, and fascinating creatures lurking in the rock pools, the busy harbour and evocative Priory ruins that lured Pilgrim and Monk alike allow visitors to share in the bewitching serenity of this enchanting location which promises memories of the most pleasing kind.
