Bray is one of Ireland's biggest and most popular seaside resorts, with the added benefit of being close to Dublin, only twelve miles north. Situated on County Wicklow's east coast, this busy but scenic market town is dominated by the dramatic Bray Head, which is topped with a large cross. The hill rises to the south of Bray's mile-long Victorian promenade, at the opposite end to the harbour. The esplanade looks out over a long sand and shingle beach, and it offers hours of fun with its traditional seafront shops, amusement arcades and mini-golf. Adult golfers in Bray will find more than a dozen courses to choose from nearby, and other outdoor activities include sailing, fishing, watersports, horse-riding and walking. The Cliff Walk to Greystones is especially exhilarating, with wonderful views. Bray is a lively town with good restaurants, bars and nightlife, and it's home to Ardmore Studios, where movies including 'Braveheart' were filmed. The town is also famous for festivals, notably the six- week Summerfest, the five-day St Patrick's Carnival and an international jazz festival held every May. Visitors will also find plenty of attractions to explore in Bray, from the National Sea Life Centre to the magnificent Kilruddery House and Gardens.
