Visitors to Clutton Hill have a choice of how to get there. The usual route is in a car via the A37 Bristol to Wells road that passes through the village of Clutton. For those with a head for heights and a pilot's licence there's an alternative, you can fly there and land at the Clutton Hill airstrip. Even if you don't fly into Clutton HIll you'll still be able to enjoy the high life as the hill commands stunning vista across the North Somerset countryside, with views of the Chew Valley, the Mendip Hills and nearby Bristol. The ideal place to stay to enjoy the views, the peace of the countryside and a good meal and a drink is the Hunter's Rest Inn. The Inn was built around 1750 as a hunting lodge for The Earl of Warwick. When, in 1892, the Earl sold off his vast Somerset estate the property became a tavern an smallholding. Thirsty coal miners would take refreshment there and the tavern was an important part of the mining community that once existed in the area. When mining died out the Inn refused to go with it and still serves the local community and visitors alike and even boasts its own miniature railway!
