Heacham is an attractive coastal village positioned in North West Norfolk in the ancient county of East Anglia, and is home to just under five thousand people. Its intriguing history dates back to the Anglo Saxons who first settled here, although the area saw Stone Age and Roman Invaders close by. It's surrounded by beautiful countryside with rich dark soil producing lavender and poppies in profusion, and there are two sandy beaches to enjoy. From a small agricultural settlement the village grew and thrived with the coming of the railways, which, in its turn brought Victorian holidaymakers in great numbers. There is an interesting mix of architecture from the red carrstone and terracotta brick built houses lining the streets, to the 13th Century church which is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin where there is a carving depicting Pocahontas, the wife of John Rolfe who was born here. Today's visitors and holidaymakers have a superb choice of places to stay from B&B's, Guesthouses and cottages, and even an old Railway station and carriage. There is a varied selection of shops, restaurants, tea rooms and country pubs offering something stronger, and as it is only 14 miles or so from the busy town of Kings Lynn its ideally placed.
