Kentish Town is just a little north of Camden Town, within walking distance. While Camden has been making a remarkable recovery from the sweeping fire of February 2008, with most of its world-famous markets open again for business, visitors to Kentish Town can appreciate a relatively quiet base from which to venture into the crowds, the bars, cafés and restaurants, and the clubs and concerts of its more celebrated neighbour. In its own right, Kentish Town has plenty going for it. This is a residential area with good shopping, eating and drinking in its main thoroughfare, Kentish Town Road. It's also home to two of London's most popular live music venues, the intimate Bull & Gate pub and the larger, prestigious Forum - good news, no doubt, for students attending the local branch of Westminster Kingsway College. Other contemporary draws in Kentish Town include several art galleries and the cutting-edge Lion & Unicorn Theatre. For keep-fit fans, there's a sports centre, and in the great outdoors, Kentish Town has its own city farm, while Hampstead Heath is not very far away. At the same time, the major attractions of Regent's Park, Euston, Marylebone and Highgate are easily reached by public transport.
