Leyton is an east-London suburb with great hopes for the future. A district characterised by Victorian terraced housing, numerous listed buildings and a vividly multicultural community, Leyton has in recent years been transformed by a series of redevelopments and an influx of new businesses. A major retail park has opened at Leyton Mills, and New Spitalfields Market, which moved here In 1991, is going from strength to strength as the UK's biggest and most successful market for exotic fruit and vegetables, said to offer the most diverse selection in Europe. More regeneration of the town is being planned as preparations get under way for the 2012 Olympic Games. Leyton, less than a mile from the perimeter of the future Olympic Park, expects to welcome many guests to the area. It already boasts some great attractions ranging from the green flag-holding Coronation Gardens to Brooks Farm, where visitors may watch the animals going through their daily routines, and the extraordinary 26-mile Lee Valley Regional Park. In the local stretch, the park contains nature reserves, a riding centre, an ice rink and a golf course. Leyton is also ideally placed for trips to Docklands, Greenwich, Epping Forest and the Kent countryside.
