Whitehall is the home of UK Government. This long road runs between Parliament Square and Trafalgar Square in two continuous parts - Whitehall and Parliament Street - and it's filled with Government offices and military buildings. The Cabinet Office, the Foreign Office, HM Treasury and the Ministry of Defence are located here, along with departmental offices. Downing Street, where the Prime Minister lives, runs off Whitehall to the west, although sightseers are banned from the road except by appointment. However, visitors are welcome to tour Banqueting House, which is all that remains of the Palace of Whitehall, a former royal residence and the scene of Charles 1's execution. Standing on part of the old palace grounds is the Horse Guards building, where a Changing of the Guard ceremony is performed every morning. A short walk leads to The Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms, while the nation's war dead are honoured on Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph, in the centre of Whitehall, near the National Monument to the Women of World War II. Various statues pay tribute to military leaders. Close to the old Admiralty buildings, the former Whitehall Theatre has reopened as two performance venues called The Trafalgar Studios.
