Horncastle is a Market Town on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds and on the banks of the River Bain and Waring. The town is peppered with thatched cottages and was granted it’s Market Charter in the 13th Century. A visit to the library will reveal more than the latest best seller as it is built over the top of part of a Roman Wall. Apart from the pretty countryside and delightful river walks there is enough to keep the most discerning visitor happy, from the wealth of antique shops to rummage around, to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre a few miles from here, where Spitfires and Lancaster Bombers are on display from WW11. Or perhaps a Medieval Castle, why not explore this red bricked beauty of Tattershall Castle from the cellars to the battlements, or Claythorpe Water Mill and Wildfowl Gardens is in a stunning setting, with 500 birds wandering freely, woodland walks, 2 shops and a café what more could be asked for…….. perhaps a camera or watercolours. Or for the thrill and roar of car, bike and kart racing there is always Cadwell Park, established in 1934 . Horncastle will definitely entice her visitor to stay and explore.
