Mablethorpe is best known today as a popular seaside resort in Lincolnshire, on the east coast of England. It is in the East Lindsay district and makes up part of 'The Fun Coast'; together with Skegness, Chapel St. Leonards, Ingoldmells, Sutton on Sea and Trusthorpe. The history of Mablethorpe is known to span many centuries, records of the Fitzwilliam family of Mablethorpe Hall date back to the early 14th century. Part of the resort was lost to the sea in the 1540s. A popular seaside resort in the 19th century, it was much loved by the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson. In the early 20th century D.H. Lawrence was also a frequent visitor. Mablethorpe is even mentioned by characters in his book 'Sons and Lovers'. There are many attractions for the visitor to Mablethorpe, including the Seal Sanctuary and Nature Centre, some play centres and funfairs. There is also a delightful range of charming shops to browse. In addition, Mablethorpe offers a good selection of cafes, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. For something quieter, you may prefer the beautiful parks and gardens, which are the pride of Mablethorpe. The award winning sandy beach is safe and stretches for miles, making it a giant playground for the children and adults alike.
