Coalville is a former Mining Town set between Ashby De La Zouch and Leicester, a mile away is the fascinating experience of how people lived in Medieval, Tudor and Stuart times at Donnington Le Heath Manor House, a 13th Century house with many exhibits and exciting monthly activities all set within a herb garden, an orchard it even has a Maze. Perhaps a ride on a Steam Train, then the ‘Battlefield Line‘, is for you, the steam locomotive passes Bosworth Field where the last battle of the Wars Of The Roses was fought. With beautiful scenery and a Museum that is stuffed with wonderful treasures of the railway of yesteryear. Or how about a trip to Snibston Discovery Park, eight galleries from science to industry housed on the site of a former Colliery. Or maybe a partially restored brick mill, Hough Mill, has many exhibits to share and stands next to craters that were dug in Medieval times by the villagers for their coal. With Ashby De La Zouch Castle close by, whose previous visitors included Henry V111, James 1, Charles 1, and Mary Queen of Scots who was imprisoned here, with an underground passage waiting to be explored, Coalville beckons.
