Kegworth is a friendly village in Leicestershire between Nottingham and Loughborough, reaching back to Saxon times, famed for it’s silk stockings. The River Soar snakes it’s way at the southern edge of the village where fishermen are forever hopeful, and painters try to capture the magic of the swans, and kingfishers. The oldest building is the church of ‘St Andrew The Apostle’ dating back to 1250, overlooks the village. If the thought of travelling the countryside in a steam locomotive passing through stations of different eras appeal, then the ‘Great Central Railway’ will take you on a journey to yesteryear, Or perhaps Racing cars haring around the track is more for you, then Donington Grand Prix Centre with the largest collection of racing cars in the world, or drive yourself around the track. If impressive houses and the historical past quickens your senses there are several like Thrumpton Hall, a grand Jacobean Mansion, or Elvaston Castle where staff in period dress show their visitor what it was like to work on the Estate, or perhaps Melbourne Hall, where the Prime Minister William Lamb once lived, surrounded by stunning scenery with the lake reflecting the ever changing sky and the trees…perfect.
