Sutton Bonington is a village dating back to Saxon times home to 1600 people. The village has two Medieval churches, and is close to the River Soar, which tempts any visitor to walk along the Tow Path and watch the boats glide past, or try to capture the wonders of Mother Nature on Canvas. The hardest thing to decide is what to see or do first, perhaps different modes of transport would be a first choice, with the Great Central Railway which has restored stations to different periods in time covering ‘60’s, ‘40’s, and Edwardian period, complete with Steam Locomotives, what more could be asked for…. maybe the fast action and adrenaline pumping Donington Grand Prix, add the largest collection of McLaren Racing Cars, together with Ferraris and Stirling Moss’s Lotus is a definite winner. For explorers, the ‘City of Caves’ offer an intriguing insight into history, descend into the caves and explore the original Anglo Saxon Tunnels, see exhibits of cave dwellers from the past, the Anderson Shelter, and Medieval Tannery… if that’s not enough the ‘Galleries of Justice’ offer a glimpse into 300 years of crime and Punishment through fabulous recreations of a Victorian Courtroom where you can experience a real trial, an Edwardian Police Station and 1950’s Condemned cell……
