Upholland is a small town located on a small hill rising from the Lancashire Plains and is Lancashire conveniently situated between two motorways the M6 and the M58, however it can trace its history back to around 1066 but it is not until around 1224 that the area was occupied by one Robert de Holland and it was his son that founded the priory here in Upholland in 1307, by 1319 the church had become a Priory for Benedictine Monks and today The Priory Church of St Thomas the Martyr stands proud within the town. The town itself is relatively but it does have a plentiful supply of public houses, a number of local stores and a couple of golf courses, in fact most of the amenities that are required. It has a local library and a number of take aways – we’ll let you decide which the best is! If you happen to visit Upholland then a word of caution if you happen to be coming out of the White Lion late on a dark and chilly night – in one of the houses nearby there is reputedly a ghost stalking he streets so don’t say you haven’t been warned!
