The little hamlet of Fritham is located well within the New Forest National Park, and thus offers excellent heathland and woodland surroundings and some agricultural land. The nearest main routes to the settlement are the A31 and M27, Fritham being about five miles from the end of that motorway. As with much of the rest of the New Forest there is excellent walking in the surrounding area, Fritham benefitting as regards peace and quiet from being a good two miles from neighbouring villages, though it can of course get busy even here. When, however, there are few visitors they have a good chance of spotting deer. There are two caravan parks near the hamlet, one in heathland the other in beech woods. Fritham itself has a renowned real-ale pub – The Royal Oak - complete with black-beamed rooms and traditional furniture, its large garden with a marquee and even a boules pitch. To the east of the place there are a couple of 18-hole golf courses. About three miles from Fritham there is the famous Rufus Stone commemorating the suspicious death of our second Norman king in a ‘hunting accident’.
