Holland-on-sea is a seaside town in east Essex, located south of the little village of Great Holland. It is a short coastal walk down the coastline to Clacton. There are 4 churches in the village: St Bartholomew’s Church, All Soul’s Catholic Church plus a Methodist and a Baptist church. The village has several independent shops, a village hall, a primary school, one main hotel, plus a number of guest houses. It has numerous fine beaches with facilities for safe bathing and boating. The village has many open grassland areas; the largest being the clifftop Holland Haven nature reserve and country park on the edge of the village. Pubs and places to eat in Holland-on-Sea include The Roaring Donkey, The Oakwood Inn and The Kingscliffe Hotel, plus Giorgio’s Ristorante which specialises in seafood. Nearby Clacton-on-Sea with its long sandy beaches and seafront gardens is most famous for the 19th century Clacton Pier (reputed to be the world's largest). It’s a family run entertainment pleasure pier with some 19 fairground rides. There is a good range of shops in Clacton town centre, plus Clacton Factory Shopping Village. There is a market in Clacton on Tuesday and Saturday and a covered market from Monday to Saturday.
