Horndon-on-the-Hill is located in Essex, twenty miles East of London, three miles north of the River Thames. Horndon has several historic buildings which include The Church of St Peter and St Paul, a beautiful old building first consecrated in 1230 AD; and The Wool Market, built in the 16th century as an auction room for the wool trade. The Bell Inn dates from the 15th century, and a custom started in 1901 of fastening a hot cross bun to the ceiling beams on Good Friday, continues to the present day. The Swan dates back to the 16th century and Thurrock Heritage awarded High House with a listed building status as it was the some time home of Philip Conrad Vincent, inventor and designer of the Vincent Motorcycle. On the last Sunday in June there is a 10k road race which takes place during the annual 'Feast and Fayre' in Horndon-on-the-Hill. Originally founded by Royal Charter in the thirteenth century, the Feast and Fayre was revived in 1974. This is a two day event taking place on the Saturday and Sunday (Sunday is Race day). There are Craft and Charity stalls, all day Street Entertainment, Music and plenty of food.
