Rickling Green is situated between Saffron Walden and Bishops Stortford in rural north-west Essex, about 6 miles from both towns. Ricking Green is 2 miles north of Stansted Mountfitchet, in the heartland of Essex village cricket country, yet only 15 minutes from Stansted Airport. The Cricketers Arms is a classic village Inn in Rickling Green, overlooking the village green and cricket ground. Mole Hall Wildlife Park is 3 miles away in Widdington. 20 acres of grounds and gardens surround the original moated manor house that dates from 1287. The exotic collection of animals and birds includes chimpanzees, flamingos, cranes, owls, otters, wallabies and a tropical butterfly pavilion. Mountfitchet Castle is a ‘heritage entertainment complex’ sited on the grounds of the original 12th century castle ruins. The pretty market town of Saffron Walden has many old buildings and antique shops. Audley End House in Saffron Walden is a Jacobean house with Capability Brown gardens and park. Audley End Miniature Railway runs for 1.5 miles through the woodland. There is a picnic area and woodland walk with teddy bears that live in the wood!
