Fontmell Magna is an attractive village nestling on the edge of the Blackmore Vale in the county of Dorset, home to nearly seven hundred people. The village dates as far back as Saxon times and is rich in history, evidence of which may still be seen today with the delightful Medieval church that's dedicated to St Andrew, and, although it was extensively re-furbished in the 19th Century it still retains its Norman font, and impressive pinnacled tower which graces the skyline. A wander through the village will uncover attractive thatched cottages, greensand brick houses stretching across the ages, and timber framed 17th Century houses which artists and photographers dream of. There is the Fontmell Brook which meanders through the village where a wealth of wildlife and Kingfishers dwell and has powered Mills across the ages. A couple of shops, and a welcoming pub that's blessed with a riverside location to try, this award winning village was also once home to The Old Gossip Tree which stood in the heart of the village and was where folk gathered, although sadly no longer standing. Walkers and cyclists are well catered for, and can explore this glorious location and surrounding countryside where Mother Nature has excelled herself.
