Blackawton is a quiet Devonshire village in the picturesque South Hams, home to nearly six hundred and fifty people, and the Annual Worm Charm Championships. The winding narrow lanes promise enchanting countryside and there is bird watching at nearby Slapton Ley Nature Reserve. Lovers of history are transported back in an instant with castles to explore such as 14th Century Dartmouth Castle which stands ever watchful over the Dart Estuary, Totnes Castle, whose Norman architecture has stood the test of time, or perhaps the evocative scene of Berry Pomeroy will bestow thoughts of Damsels and Knights, as it tells it’s chilling tale. Any thoughts of a brief encounter should be extended when visiting Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway where the thrill of steam travel is relived. Or follow in the footsteps of king Charles 11 with a trip to Dartmouth Museum, or Kingsbridge Cookworthy Museum which has an impressive Victorian Kitchen, car lovers are in their element with fabulous vehicles on display at Totnes Motor Museum, and the thousands of animals at Paignton Zoo is sure to delight, if an adrenaline rush is wished for, Woodlands Leisure Park will surely grant it with heart stopping rides like the Sea Dragon Swing Ship and Side Winder.
