The Devon village of Diptford snuggles peacefully in the foothills of Dartmoor. It has a vibrant and active community with many village events and activities scattered throughout the year. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Diptford overlooks the river Avon. It is believed the village name comes from “Deep ford”, The site of a river crossing. There are some lovely walks for visitors following footpaths in and around the village, but the services and amenities are as basic as expected in a rural village. There is currently no bus service serving Diptford village. It would make the perfect location for a get away from it all holiday, but not one for those who like action packed vacations. Approaching the village along the Avon valley, the skyline is dominated by the spire of the 13th Century St. Mary’s church. The church plays a central role in village life. The Diptford and District Show takes place in July and is undoubtedly the highlight of the village year with something for all tastes and interests. For days away from Diptford itself, journey on the Devon Railway or take a leisurely day cruise on the Dart river enjoying spectacular scenery and wildlife.
