Mortehoe is a cliff top village in North Devon with dramatic views of the Heritage Coastline, and a toe curling history of smugglers and ship wrecks which floundered off of Morte point. A walk along the green topped cliffs will bestow soul pleasing views out to sea and along to Baggy Point. For those who take the footpath to the secluded beach of Rockham Bay will be reminded of childhood days, where sand castles, and fishing for creatures that lurk in rock pools were the order of the day. At the foot of the steps to the sandy beach and cliffs will keep artists engaged for hours. The Village has a 13th Century church with interesting treasures, or why not call in to the Heritage Centre where shipwrecks and fascinating history is unravelled. Surfers enjoy the ‘Barrels, ‘tubes‘, and ‘Epic’ times when the surfs up. Step inside for an insight into Gems, Rocks and Shells from all over the world at the Gem and Rock Museum, or perhaps the marine wonders at Ilfracombe Aquarium will please. Or maybe a tour around the impressive Chambercombe Manor, which dates back to the 11th Century will tick all the boxes, fine furniture, a priests Hole and even a haunted Room.
