The Jurassic Coast runs for 95 miles through Devon and its rocks and cliffs span 185 million years of geological history. Set within East Devon’s UNESCO World Heritage Coastline is Lyme Bay, providing a gateway to the Jurassic Coast. Within Lyme Bay sits Seaton Bay, with its mile long shingle beach. For those who enjoy water based recreation, the bay offers windsurfing, sailing, scuba diving and fishing. At the centre of Seaton Bay lies the resort of Seaton, with the estuary of the river Axe to its East. As well as being of immense environmental importance, the area offers stunning landscape views of the East Devon coastline. The Axe estuary provides a habitat for numerous species of birds and wildlife, while the Seaton marshes and wetlands team with birds all year round. From the open top Seaton trams which run along the estuary and marshes to the nearby Colyton, it is possible to see 30 to 50 different varieties of birds. And back outdoors again, the Axe Valley is criss-crossed with many walking and cycling paths. With holiday accommodation to suit all preferences and pockets, Seaton and its surrounding area is the ideal spot for a traditional Devon coastal vacation.
