Slapton is an unspoilt coastal village set within the stunning South Hams area in the county of Devon, South West England, and is home to just under five hundred people. It has an interesting history which reaches as far back as the Iron Age; there are pretty houses and cottages from across the ages, and an impressive church that's dedicated to St James which was built in the 13th/14th Centuries. Visitors and holidaymakers alike are tempted to visit as it's surrounded by attractive countryside with a network of footpaths to explore, and there's a fine beach where pebbles and shingle crunch under foot. Near to the beach visitors will discover a Sherman Tank, a reminder of the Second World War when the village and surrounding area was evacuated due to hundreds of US troops who practised for the D Day Landings here. A stroll along the narrow winding lanes will uncover two pubs which offer a coffee, or something stronger, an Iron Age Hill Fort, and an impressive 14th century Tower that was once part of an ecclesiastical College. There are shops for that necessary item, and for those who wish to stay a good choice of B&B's, comfortable cottages, and even two campsites to enjoy.
