Yelverton is a large village come town in the West of Devon. In recent years it has become popular as a commuter town for the city of Plymouth. Sitting as it is on the very edge of Dartmoor, Yelverton offers easy access to the moors for walking and exploring. The countryside surrounding the town also provides excellent opportunities for wooded walks. There have been settlements in the area since before prehistoric times and many standing stones, stone circles, burial chambers and hut circles still remain. From Yelverton the visitor can take in lovely views across the Walkham Valley to Brent Tor. The church which stands 1,100 feet on the summit can be seen on a clear day. One of the main attractions in this area is the Yelverton Paperweight Centre. As well as an extensive collection of glass paperweights on display, there are also many paintings by local artists. In and around Yelverton there are many fine eating and drinking establishments, as well as accommodation including self catering and cottages for holiday let. The Yelverton golf course features superb facilities in addition to a challenging course. There is a shop, repair centre, excellent practice facilities, snooker room and superior restaurant.
