Close to the borders of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and in the county of Derbyshire lies the village of Kegworth, the spire of the village church announcing the villages presence. It is believed that the long history of Kegworth goes back to ancient Briton whilst the village also gains a mention in the Domesday Book. Because of its unique location the village has roots firmly embedded within the agricultural industry however localised industry commenced within the 18th century when hosiery and lace were made here. As this industry grew the old farm yards were converted into courtyards where women and children produced the hosiery and lace that became synonymous with the area. Kegworth lies adjacent to the River Soar, one of this areas best kept secrets, it is home to a myriad of wildlife that today attracts many visitors who enjoy the calm and peaceful walks along its banks not realising that this was once one of the most profitable, and therefore busiest, waterways in England. Kegworth offers both its residents and visitors the benefit of convenience, Rutland Water and Alton Towers are easily accessible from here with easy access to the M1 and M42 and the East Midlands Airport providing worldwide connections for the small village.
