Shottlegate lies to the south of Shottle and is so called as it takes the name Shottlegate from the fact that at one time there was a gate here to Shottle Park which at the time of the Domesday Book was one of several parks in the area, at that time owned by Ferrars family. Shottle Hall is a small country style hotel originally built for a local family today it offers its visitors an exclusive location with around 4 acres of formal gardens together with 14 acres of open parkland.
